Sr. Process Engineer

BASIC FUNCTION: The person in this position will provide daily engineering support to the fertilizer operations and develop strategies/systems to improve manufacturing performance at the Site.  Position will also support capital projects and continuous improvement efforts with Process Engineering and Operations expertise.
  1. Process Engineering
  1. Become familiar with all areas of plant processes.
  2. Use process expertise to ensure facility and personal adherence to regulatory, company policies, and good manufacturing practices.
  3. Perform Process Design & Detail Engineering including performing process simulations, design calculations, Process Optimization, sizing & selection of equipment, purchasing equipment etc.
  4. Preparation of various engineering deliverables (Drawings & Documents) such as Process Flow Diagrams, P & I Diagrams, process datasheets, equipment specifications, control philosophies, shutdown philosophies, HAZOP Studies & reports, operation & maintenance manuals etc. and providing necessary engineering inputs to the other disciplines and other departments.
  5. Provide technical leadership and support to plant capital projects, including design, capital justification, PSM, and commissioning activities.
  6. Provide daily technical support to Operations including process optimization, troubleshooting, root cause analysis and risk analysis.
  7. Support Process Safety Management (PSM), Health Safety and Environmental (HSE), and Continuous Improvement programs
  8. Mentoring of engineering resources – build professional and effective technical teams for plant site.
  9. Mentoring of production resources – build technical knowledge and demonstrate leadership.
  10. Preparation & Issue of request for quotations (RFQs), evaluation of vendor’s quotations, clarifications, technical bid analysis etc.
  11. Prepare and circulate scope documents and approval for expenditures (AFEs) for new capital projects
  12. Drive an innovation and continuous improvement focus in engineering and manufacturing activities to develop best practices, routines and solutions to improve production rates and quality of output
  13. Recommend reliability improvements while researching new manufacturing technology.
  14. Assisting in the development and maintenance of process control narratives.
  15. Participate in Process Hazard Assessments
  16. Training maintenance personnel, plant operators and engineers as needed.  
  17. Assist with scoping, design, implementation of Plant Instrumentation Systems.
  18. Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs
  19. Perform other duties assigned.
  • Minimum of 8+ years work experience. 
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. 
  • Prior experience in the fertilizer industry (ammonia, urea, nitric acid) is a plus. 
  • Demonstrated team leadership and strong communication skills with capability to collaborate and develop win/win solutions.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex process and production issues using multiple disciplined teams and data driven analysis.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects/tasks, adapt to changing conditions and balance a “big picture” focus with detailed execution.
  • Process Safety Management experience with Management of Change or MOC and Pre Startup Safety Review or PSSR is preferred
  • Experience with Chemcad (or other process simulators) is a plus
