Safety Coordinator

 SUMMARY:  Duties include but are not limited to:  Teaching the annual OSHA required training (HazCom, Confined-Space requirements, Respiratory Protection, PPE requirements, Emergency Response, Lockout / Tagout, Asbestos Awareness, D.O.T. training, Blood-born Pathogens), maintaining respiratory equipment, maintaining and ordering safety supplies and equipment, keeping up on OSHA standards and requirements, overseeing some confined-space entries, and keeping up with HazCom signs inventory.
  • Conduct required training during weekly S&T meetings.
  • Safety training for new employees and contractors.
  • Perform respirator fit testing as needed.
  • Calibrate, repair, and maintain all air monitoring equipment.  Order parts and supplies as needed.
  • Pressure test Level-A emergency response suits.  Keep inventoried and order as needed.
  • Have respiratory equipment tested – regulators flow tested, air bottles pressure tested, refill breathing air cylinders, etc.
  • Coordinates with outside contractor to perform annual hearing tests.
  • Coordinates with PSM Coordinator to update safety training records.
  • Inventory and order various safety signs throughout the plant.
  • Assist in, and lead, incident investigations – part of investigation team.
  • Review and study OSHA standards or contact authorities to solve arising safety related questions and problems.
  • Lead the HazMat team and confined space/rope rescue team in quarterly drills.
  • Point of contact for plant emergency’s.
  • All PCC safety procedures, OSHA requirements, knowledge of fit-testing and air monitoring equipment, know how to use Level-A pressure testing equipment.
  • Prefer 2-3 years of chemical plant experience. Bachelor’s degree in safety is not a requirement, but will be given priority.
  • Physical ability to work around industrial chemical equipment, including climbing stairs, vertical ladders, and on/off heavy equipment. Normal workplace will be office environment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Bending, kneeling, lifting up to 50 lbs. Some work may require heights in excess of 100 feet.
  • Willingness to work around dust, chemicals, high pressure, high temperature, loud noises, and running equipment. Confined space entry may be required.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) daily (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel toed boots and hearing protection) when in plant areas. Ability to wear more extensive safety gear such as full-face respirator or SCBA if needed.
