Project Engineer

Job Summary:
The Project Engineer is responsible to ensure that the plants are operating at their optimum efficiency and that improvement or modification projects are implemented where warranted and in accordance with good engineering practices. The role will provide technical support and service to operations and maintenance, as directed. Additionally, this position will collaborate with other engineers throughout the company to share best practices and execute a world class engineering program at our Complex.
Job Responsibilities:
  1. Develops mechanical system design solutions based on engineering principles and be involved in presentation of solutions to operations and maintenance.
  2. Provides capital process engineering detailed design and supervises engineering consultants during the course of the design phase.
  3. Acts as Construction Manager for the installation and commissioning of assigned projects.
  4. Oversee capital projects and support resources to ensure safe, timely delivery of projects using allotted budget, which may include shop visits to monitor performance and perform required inspections.
  5. Identifies and enforces appropriate project controls for scope development, engineering design, procurement, installation, and start up.
  6. Provides detailed engineering support to monitor and progress the Management of Change process.
  7. Provides a good knowledge and understanding of the operating principles and procedures for various process equipment and the effects of process parameters on production.
  8. Actively participates in turnaround and/or plant shutdown activities. This does include planning, implementation and verification stages.
  9. Manages projects as necessary for plant support, including the coordination and communication to contractors and government agencies as required.
  10. Works closely with production personnel.
  11. Actively participates in incident investigations and the revalidation of Process Hazard Analysis (PHAs) as needed.
Internal Controls:
Establishes and implements processes and procedures to meet departmental internal controls requirements. Ensures established processes/procedures are followed as designed. Works with Internal Controls Department to identify deficiencies in existing processes/procedures, the need for new ones, and the extent to which such processes/procedures are being followed. Develops and implements corrective actions with regard to department internal controls as necessary.
Required Qualifications:
  1. BS degree in Chemical or Mechanical engineering.
  2. Minimum four (4) years of experience in a production, manufacturing or plant environment subject to the OSHA 1910.119 Process Safety Management (PSM) regulation
  3. Demonstrated skills in Project Management
  4. Solid communication skills including the ability to effectively converse in English, compose written documents and interact effectively with peers and supervisors.
  5. Familiar with applicable codes, regulations and standards.
