Research Scientist

Major Job Responsibilities:
The candidate is expected to contribute to a broad multi-disciplinary team and is responsible for implementing developments of considerable importance, scope, and complexity.  This scientist will apply their practical experience in base sheet design, insight into methods of paper manufacturing and mastery of coating fundamentals towards the creation and implementation of specialty papers and their respective coatings.  Specific knowledge of latex chemistry, organic binders, silicones and matting agents is preferred.  Additionally, the candidate will coordinate and participate in both internal manufacturing and external customer trials, as part of their accountability to bring innovation from the laboratory environment to commercial fruition. 
 
 Specific Job Tasks: 
  • Independent researcher, consultant and technical authority focusing on paper design, paper manufacturing methods and functional paper coatings.
  • Develops and implements scientifically meaningful and financially valuable solutions coherent with the long-term strategic goals of the paper mill and release business.
  • Uncovers innovative materials and systems to tactically advance the technology and/or cost competitiveness of company release papers.
  • Applies technology platforms from other industries and disciplines to product and process technical challenges
  • Creates, maintains and documents a plan of research objectives incorporating principles of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), statistical data analysis, and methods of experimental design.
  • Executes project work in laboratory and manufacturing sites safely, effectively and with minimum impact on operational productivity.
  • Candidate has demonstrated past innovative accomplishments in the area of specialty coating / paper manufacturing.
Requirements
  • In depth knowledge of paper machines and the products
  • 3-15 years of experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Paper Science Engineering or technical field
