Commodity Buyer - Merchandiser

Minimum Requirements:
  • B.S. or B.A. degree, preferably in agricultural economics or something related
  • 5+ years of post-college, industry experience, ideally with buying things like corn, soybean meal, dried grains, wheat middlings, molasses, plant/animal proteins, etc.
  • Candidates should have experience with commodity ingredients (high volume, limited storage) and experience in the food or feed industries would be ideal
  • Should have experience with systems such as Microsoft Dynamics AX, Excel, Word, Power Point
Job Description:
This person will be based at the North American headquarters for this large animal feed additives company. This is a new position based on growth that this company is experiencing. The main thrust of this role will be the responsible sourcing and buying of common feed ingredients and the annual spend for this buyer will be greater than $100MM. This person will maintain a result-based methodology for evaluating supplier’s performance and effectiveness as well as the saving potential they offer. They will lead negotiation efforts on purchase agreements and vendor contracts and will serve as an internal resource for commodity and supply questions. Travel for this position will be in the 5-20% range, visiting company facilities as well as vendor facilities. The parent company is a multi-billion dollar manufacturer with facilities around the World. This company offers advancement opportunity and they do an excellent job of investing in their employees through on-going education and business training.
