Process Engineer

A. Job Purpose: 
Develops, scales, and aids in commissioning of new industrial processes and new process plant and equipment designs or improves existing ones to provide maximum and efficient at-scale facility product output levels to meet business goals.
B. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conducts development, scale-up, and implementation of new processes and products to or de-bottlenecks existing processes in a manufacturing environment.
  • Works with Process Chemists from proof-of-concept to pilot demonstrations to gather reliable scaling data; develops Process Safety Information & Technical Packages to support design, build, and scaleup.
  • Works with Design Engineers to develop, specify, and complete equipment configurations and installations on-time; considers relevant process technologies within appropriate regulatory, quality, and economic considerations.
  • Conducts plant MOC Reviews and addresses Action Items; ensures relevant project safety and efficiency considerations are considered, documented, and communicated for all stages; supports EH&S and PSM compliance or improvement needs for the plant.
  • Assists Operations to commission and validate new processes and plants for target product ranges and efficiencies; includes developing in-process metrics, monitoring run progress, and troubleshooting.
  • Matches fitness-for-use requirements to process measurements and set points; assists Quality to ensure target product levels are sustained in production; utilizes trended data, simulation, and statistical SPC tools for continuous improvement.
  • Evaluates process feasibility and fit, make versus buy cost, and COGs determinations and recommends insourcing (internal) or outsourcing (tolling).
  • Assesses process development, plant reconfiguration, or expansion options via process simulation models; proposes value add versus cost tradeoffs to justify.
  • Qualifications and Experience:
  • Min. 5 years’ experience in a chemical/petrochemical manufacturing environment.
  • Independent management of projects >$250k.
  • Requires good oral and written communication and time management skills.
  • Proven track record of successful process scaleup and implementation in a chemical manufacturing plant.
  • Education:  
  • B.S. or M.S. degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
  • Functional Skills and Knowledge:
  • Highly proficient with chemical manufacturing unit equipment operation and equipment & process trouble shooting.
  • Capable of leading process incident RCAs and addressing assigned Corrective Actions and PHA Recommendation Items.
  • Practical knowledge of DCS and PLC plant control systems and their programming to support manufacturing needs is highly desirable.
