Corporate Process Control & Automation Manager

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Corporate Process Controls & Automation Manager located at our Corporate Headquarters. This position was created to advance the company’s integration of Control and Business LAN. This position shall drive the overall development and maintenance of the production facilities PLCs (control LAN) and the development of the interaction between the controls/PLC infrastructure and the business reporting (Business LAN).
 
In addition, the Corporate Process Controls & Automation Manager shall have demonstrated skills in requirements gathering, design, configuration, integration and implementation of process control solutions for the chemical manufacturing industry including batch software, PLC / DCS systems, HMI packages, SCADA systems and PC networking technology. 
 
Daily responsibilities of the controls team include solutions implementation and support of plant and project objectives.  This position demands a team player approach to project execution and process improvements. This position will be critical in leading our plants in identifying technologies to be used for new applications, the extension of current architectures and improving the automation and reporting of the operating facilities. 
 
Major Areas of Accountability:
  • Understand economics and true costs of our products and what it takes to operate our plants.
  • Develop and implement control system strategies to improve the safety, efficiency, capacity and quality of existing operations.
  • Lead the process controls group in the upgrade of our process facilities to state of the art automation.
  • Balance workload of process controls group to support our operating facilities and maximize the development of the engineers
  • Improve reporting and data collection from the Control LAN to allow up to date business reporting on the operation of our facilities.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement potential new technologies or methods that would improve the efficiency at each of our manufacturing facilities.
  • Maintain the security of the operating facilities Control LAN.
  • In association with Plants, investigate causes of product variances and develop improvement plans to allow tighter final product specifications.
  • Develop and audit a planning system to improve plant PM/PdM maintenance for process  control devices.
  • Develop short and long term plans on where we should be with automation and keep existing PLC systems running reliably.
  • Maximize the hardware we have in place through good use of software, loop tuning and good programming.
  • Assist in improving the economics, reliability and quality of our plants.
  • Establish “best practices” and standards in regards to instrumentation, control system architecture, process control, etc.
  • Design control systems for plant process upgrades, including control panel design, PLC programming, and HMI programming.  Rockwell RSView Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View SE & ME, and AutoCAD preferred.
  • Provide supervision for controls systems integrators and team startup assistance as needed.
 
Ideal Candidate:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Chemical Preferred).
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in manufacturing, focusing on Process Controls Engineering including their interaction with business reporting systems.  Experience in batch chemical manufacturing is preferred.
  • Project management experience with controls projects.
  • Capable of working with cross-functional teams in pursuit of a common goal.
  • Willing to “get hands dirty” by working “in the field” at our manufacturing facilities.
  • Technology and batch process manufacturing expertise in all of the following project phases: requirements documentation, detailed design generation, implementation, system integration, testing, and on-site startup
  • 5 or more years PLC experience (Allen Bradley Preferred).
  • Proven experience with any of the following HMI or SCADA software packages: Wonderware, Rockwell, or equivalent.  
  • Willing to travel 25 – 30% of the time.
